Women Are Natural In Conducting Research

March 11, 2024

UX this, UX that, but have you ever wondered why such a big part of the (user) research study  is predominately female? Let’s entertain this thought.

So we are curious, yes, we love to talk, and sometimes even gossip, but most importantly we love sharing experiences with other women and learning from them. This is how we survive, explore, evolve and improve.

Let’s jump into an example that I think will hit the mark with the girlies, and not only the research aspect but also the girl math trend. 😁

Have you tried the Eucerin sunscreen before? 🥰

Summer is coming, that’s a fact. UVA and UVB rays damage our skin and increase the risk of DNA skin mutations that later can turn into melanoma and other types of skin cancer. As with everything in life too little or too much is never good. So naturally is time to stock on a favourite sunscreen. 🧴Also important note, it is recommended to wear SPF-infused products all year around not only during the summer.

Here are a couple of advantages of using sunscreen all year around:

  • Protection from UV Rays: Sunscreen shields your skin from harmful UV rays, which are present even on cold winter days due to ozone layer depletion.
  • Prevention of Premature Aging: Regular use of sunscreen helps prevent premature ageing caused by sun exposure, reducing skin ageing by up to 24% over time.
  • Achieving an Even Skin Tone: Sunscreen application can contribute to achieving a more even skin tone by helping heal blemishes, marks, and dark spots.
  • Protection Against Skin Diseases: Sunscreen not only prevents sunburn but also protects against skin diseases like skin cancer, making it essential for overall skin health.

But this process isn’t as easy as it might sound at first. I am not as competent as a professional esthetician but some factors need to be considered when purchasing sunscreen. And when we are talking about sunscreen I mean face sunscreen. And here comes the research piece:

  • Skin type (normal, dry, oily, combination (both oily and dry skin) and sensitive)
  • Price (is it on discount, shipping included or free, doesn’t come with an extra gift or tool)
  • Formula (consistency of the sunscreen, look and feel)
  • Additional benefits and properties
  • Fragrance or fragranceless
  • Social proof (what other women say about the product)
  • Availability (is it in stock; how often is it out of stock)
  • Is it suitable for a makeup base?

These are just a few of the criteria I use when browsing online and looking for suitable sunscreen. Each user might have more or less criteria they buy based on.

What are some of the research studies you conduct on an occasional or regular basis? Leave your suggestions in the comments! Would love to hear. 😊
